Introduction

In this suspense, set in the harsh snowy landscape of the Alps, a young technician is sent to repair an electric power plant in an Italian village plagued by blackouts. There, he encounters a strange disappearance...
Having first made a name for himself in short films, Claudio Noce’s sudden transition to features with Good Morning, Aman (2009), starring the popular actor Valerio Mastandrea, made him a director to watch. Ice Forest, his second full-length offering, is a psychological suspense that unfolds in a small border town in northern Italy. Like his debut feature, Ice Forest displays a strong awareness of the social problems currently facing Europe. Another notable aspect is lead actor Emir Kusturica, whose image as a roughneck does not in any way detract from his performance here. The fact that he was born in the former Yugoslavia adds another layer of meaning to the film.
