His feature directorial debut Delicatessen scored a big hit as the best third of admission in France and won 4 César awards. The City of Lost Children (La cité des enfants perdus) was nominated for Best International Film at Independent Spirit Awards. As his talent attracts attention of Hollywood, he was selected as the director of Alien 4. Amélie made a huge world-wide hit record in French cinema history and was nominated 5 categories including Original Screenplay at the Academy Awards.
