Introduction
In the late 70s, an impotent policeman tries to catch a rapist with the help of a traditional Chinese medicine doctor in Northeast China.
Synopsis
In the 70s, just two years after the end of Cultural Revolution, a series of rape cases breaks out in the Northeast region. The film begins with impotent policeman Li Zhansan who meets, at the crime scene, a woman who breeds pigs, who is a retired Chinese-medicine professor. The case is unresolved and Cai Bin, injured, returns to the city. Li Zhansan has to take off his uniform and sell Tofu. But their life paths have crossed. Captain Li is able to come back to life and discovers his fugitive living just steps away.
◆Director's Message
The story is based on a true event in the late 70s, but I wanted to make a film that connects with a young Chinese audience which has grown up wearing Nike shoes. I take this film as a witness of what happened in China, in the sense of changing sexual identity and human behavior within the historical context.
