Synopsis
Maria is 14 years old. Her family is part of a fundamentalist Catholic community. Her heart belongs to Jesus. She wants to follow him, to become a saint and go to heaven – just like all the holy children she’s been told about. So Maria goes through 14 stations, just like Jesus did on his path to Golgotha, and reaches her goal in the end. Not even Christian, a boy she meets at school, can stop her, even if in another world, they might have become friends, or even lovers. Left behind is a broken family that finds comfort in faith, and the question if all these events were really so inevitable. Winner of Silver Bear (Best Script) at Berlin International Film Festival.
Born in Munich in Germany in 1976, he grew up in southern Germany and South Africa. He has been making films since 1997 alongside music, writing and photography. Three of his previous films have screened at Berlinale, most recently {Run If You Can (Renn, Wenn Du Kannst)} in Perspektive Deutsches Kino section. He has also made a name for himself directing music videos for Thees Uhlmann and Judith Holofernes.
