Introduction

Born in Matsumoto, Nagano, in 1934, Yasuo Furuhata joined the Toei Company after he graduated from Tokyo University, and made his directorial debut with Hiko shojo Yoko in 1966. He is known for his Gendai yakuza series, starring Bunta Sugawara, and for his work with Ken Takakura in such films as Winter’s Flower (1978), Railroad Man (1999), and Dearest (2012). His most recent film is A Boy Called H (2013).
