Introduction
People living in a mountain village try to save the nature from destruction caused by hydro-electric power plants.
Synopsis
Murat, who lives in a mountain village in the Black Sea region, takes photos and shoots documentary films. The days pass in serenity; Murat tells his nephew Burak the mysterious story of swallows walking on the mountains and cliffs. Inspired by his uncle, Burak makes nests for the swallows. However, Murat has some personal problems. He is indecisive about leaving the town for the big city. An interesting man from the big city arrives on the plateau; he is Harun, who left the village years ago. In a short period of time, they become close friends.
◆Director's Message
As the Swallows Got Thirsty tells the true story of the people living in the northeast of Turkey and their long struggle against the construction of HEPPs (hydro-electric power plants). The 'murder of nature', which is maybe the most terrible crime of our century, is threatening the lives of all creatures on earth. Honourable local people are trying to save nature. In our film, we used real footage as well as dramatic reenactment. The distinctive feature of the film is to include the real persons in the story. The enactments and real footage are mingled in the film.
