Addition of a New Award to the Competition Section at the TIFF The WOWOW Viewer’s Choice Award

Tokyo International Film Festival (Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Film Festival Department, Unijapan; President of Unijapan, Junichi Sakomoto; TIFF) and WOWOW (Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President, Nobuya Wazaki) today announced a new joint award they have established for the Competition Section at this year’s 27th TIFF—the ‘WOWOW Viewer’s Choice Award’. This will be the first time for a broadcasting company to be a presenting sponsor of an award at TIFF. The cash prize for this award will be US $10,000.

The members of the selection committee for the WOWOW Viewer’s Choice Award will consist of six subscribed viewers of WOWOW’s broadcasting channels. WOWOW subscribers who would like to be considered as a member of the ‘selection committee’ are requested to send in an application according to the procedure that will be announced in mid-August on the WOWOW official website.

Scenes from the 27th TIFF and the screening process to determine the winner of the WOWOW Viewer’s Choice Award are scheduled to be shown at ‘TOUCH! WOWOW 2014’, a full-scale event integrating TV broadcasts with online experiences and live events on November 22, 2014.

TIFF and WOWOW will continue to plan and activate beneficial projects together to contribute to the development of Japan’s film culture.

The 27th Tokyo International Film Festival will be held from October 23 to 31, 2014 at Roppongi Hills, TOHO Cinemas Nihonbashi, and other venues in Tokyo. Please join us at all the festival locations to share the excitement of the world of inspiring films and other contents!
